Here, the Hawaii-based influencer shares with NakedPoppy about his skincare routine, how he spends precious free time, and what a beautiful life truly means.

1. What do you do, and how did you get there?

I’m a skincare YouTube content creator, focused on making information entertaining and easy to understand in order to help introduce people to the world of skincare. I started uploading in 2017 but didn’t take it seriously until 2019. Once I committed to creating videos aimed at helping people understand the basics while drawing in those who weren’t originally interested in skincare, I started to see significant growth

2. So many of us feel over-committed. What’s your advice for holding it all together?

I’m a bad example of this, to be completely frank! I have a hard time saying no to amazing opportunities and overcommit myself — but I’d say time management is everything. Finding a balance between necessary free time to let the brain and soul rest and wasted time is important! I usually go out in nature or on a drive daily to get away from all of my responsibilities.

3. How would you complete this sentence: “A good skincare routine makes me feel…”

A good skin care routine makes me feel prepared — prepared to start the day, prepared to handle and protect against long-term skin damage, and prepared to feel confident!

4. With 5 minutes to pack your dopp kit, what products do you reach for?

I grab the Youth To The People Green Tea Cleanser and the First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream. I also grab the Purito Centella Unscented SPF, the Tarteguard SPF Powder for sunscreen touch-ups, eyedrops, and gum.

5. Tell us about an experience or defining moment that has influenced your outlook on skincare.

The first time I was called out and told I was wrong in the comment sections about skincare information was really defining for me. It helped push me to educate myself further and to look to experts within the industry for more information. I’m grateful for it, otherwise I never would have learned the important principle of expanding my information sources and recognizing where my beliefs have been incorrect in the past!

6. Is there an aspect of your appearance you’ve struggled with in the past? How do you feel about it now?

My interest in skincare has little to do with appearance and more so with the passion and education. Still, I’ve always struggled with my self-image and it’s something I truly believe I will always struggle with. I have a few moments a year where I feel beautiful, but the rarity helps make the experiences all the more special! I also think creating content and having to stare at yourself for hours on end editing really does negatively affect the way you perceive yourself — but like everything, it’s a work in progress and something I’m trying to improve!

7. Do you do anything surprising in order to feel healthier?

I’ve been really critical about what types of food I eat. I’ve noticed a direct correlation between my focus and the food I consume — the more unhealthy the meal, the less ability I have to concentrate on work. I love eating protein-rich salads because I never have to worry about low blood sugar or a loss of focus!

8. What do you think is the key to success?

I think it’s a balance of dedication and self-improvement. Within the social media space, so many people believe that dedication is the only component necessary for success, but I disagree; without recognizing your shortcomings and constantly committing to improving yourself and your content, you’ll remain stagnant! Incorporating both of these principles has been life-changing for me, both personally and professionally.

9. What makes your life beautiful?

I think the small moments of gratitude, peace, seclusion in nature, and positive memories makes my life beautiful. While my career and presence online provides me joy to no end, the true beauty of life is found in the small, seemingly insignificant things that help me appreciate just being alive.
