There’s a common misconception that if something is natural or clean, “it doesn’t work.” This simply isn’t true: as technology has progressed, makeup formulators have been able to create long-lasting products using clean and non-toxic ingredients, including lovely lipsticks.

In this article we’ll outline some easy tips to keep your lipstick lasting longer than ever.

Tip One

Before applying lipstick, take a concealer or foundation color that’s as close to your skin tone as possible, and buff a light application with a sponge or brush over the natural outline of your lips. Concealer like the Clove + Hallow Conceal and Correct can act as a barrier between your lips and the skin surrounding your mouth preventing feathering or bleeding into fine lines.

Tip Two

Before applying lipstick, lightly tap a sheer, satiny eyeshadow at the Cupid’s bow. Not only will this create a pretty highlighting effect, but it will also prevent feathering or bleeding. You could use the Luminizing Powder in Grande Dame from the RMS Beauty, or “Stark Naked” in the Lily Lolo Laid Bare Palette. Both can be found in your NakedPoppy picks!

Tip Three

Apply a layer of lipstick to both the bottom and top lips. Use a tissue to blot. You can either choose to leave your lips blotted for more of a stained look, or apply a second layer for more color intensity. Blotting before applying the second layer of lipstick creates less product buildup on the lips. Without this excess, lips are less likely to smudge.

Tip Four

After blotting, apply a thin layer of translucent powder or eyeshadow to the lips in order to set in the first layer. Then apply a second layer. Repeat this process for more color intensity.

Setting any creamy product with a powder is a tried-and-true way to ensure it will last. That, along with a blotting technique, is a sure-fire way to keep your lips looking fabulous all day – or all night – long!
